The design and build process for our outdoor spaces evolve naturally by collaborating and engaging with teachers, students and their community. This way, a sense of ownership is embedded within and personal connections are created.
Over many years of creating outdoor play spaces within kindergartens, primary, secondary and specialist schools, we’ve had the pleasure of unearthing many golden opportunities that lay within our design and build processes that promote student involvement and support project based learning experiences.
By engaging students in our process, it offers them the opportunity to control their own personal learning journey and immerse themselves in meaningful activities. It provides the opportunity to build confidence, solve problems, work in teams, communicate ideas and manage themselves more effectively. It connects students and provides a sense of belonging and community.
Through our experiences with student involvement, we’ve created two project based learning programs that are structured around researching, experiencing, collaborating, producing, sharing and reflecting. The programs are designed broadly as a resource for educators that can be slotted into curriculums and inquiry units.
